Fabric protection that buys you time when something gets spilled.

Applied after cleaning, to carpets, rugs and upholstery. It will not make a fabric stain-proof. It makes spilled liquid sit on the surface long enough for you to get to it before it soaks in.

How it works

Protection does not stop stains, it buys you time

Untreated fabric absorbs. A spilled drink is into the fibre within seconds, and by the time you have found a cloth it has already reached the backing. That is why some stains lift cleanly and others never quite do.

A protector changes what happens in those first few seconds. Liquid beads on the surface rather than soaking in, which gives you time to blot it up before it gets to the base of the pile. The same applies to wet shoes in a hallway: less is drawn into the fibre on the way through.

We apply it after cleaning, because it needs to bond to clean fibre. It is an optional extra, priced per job according to how much area is being treated, and quoted before we start.

Fabric protection FAQs

Does it make my carpet stain-proof?

No, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling it. What it does is slow absorption down. A drink that would have gone straight into the backing sits on the surface instead, so you get the chance to blot it before it becomes a stain. Leave it long enough and it will still mark.

How long does it last?

It wears with use, so traffic routes lose it well before the edges of a room do. Most people have it reapplied when they next have the carpet cleaned, rather than on any fixed schedule.

Is it safe around pets and children?

Every product we use is chosen to be safe around animals, and this one is no exception. It is applied, left to dry, and there is nothing left sitting on the surface to come off on paws or hands.

Can you apply it without cleaning first?

We would rather not. Protector bonds to clean fibre, and putting it over soil just seals the soil in. If the carpet was cleaned very recently we can talk about it, but as a rule it goes on straight after a clean.

You say insured. Insured for what, exactly?

Public liability on its own does not cover damage to the thing being cleaned. Our policy adds treatment risk and damage to property worked upon, up to £2 million, which is the cover that actually applies if a carpet or a sofa is damaged during a clean.

It is worth asking any carpet cleaner for that specifically. Plenty carry public liability alone and still describe themselves as fully insured, and the difference only shows up at the point you need it.
