Stain Removal

Stain removal that is honest about what will lift and what will not.

Wine, coffee, tea, curry, grease, ink, make-up and the rest. Some lift completely, some improve, and a few are permanent from the moment they land. We will tell you which yours is before we start rather than afterwards.

How it works

Most stains are set by the first attempt, not the spill

Most of the stains we are called out to were survivable when they happened. What set them was the first attempt: scrubbing, which drives the spill into the backing and distorts the pile, or a supermarket bottle that left a sticky residue behind and turned one mark into a patch that attracts dirt.

The stain and the fibre both matter. Coffee on wool behaves nothing like coffee on polypropylene, and a treatment that is safe on one can strip colour from the other. We identify both before choosing anything, and we test somewhere hidden if there is any doubt at all.

Some things genuinely do not come out. Dye transfer from a rug backing, bleach, and old ink have removed the colour rather than added to it, and no amount of cleaning puts colour back. Where that is what we are looking at, we will say so instead of charging you to find out.

Pet stain & odour FAQs

Will you get red wine out?

Usually a good deal of it, and sometimes all of it, depending on how long it has been there and what the carpet is made of. Fresh wine on a synthetic carpet often lifts completely. The same spill left for a fortnight on wool is a different conversation.

What we will not do is promise it before we have looked at it.

Bleach marks, dye transfer from a rug or a cheap doormat, sun fading, and most old ink. These have taken colour out of the fibre rather than putting something on top of it, so there is nothing to lift.

Heat-set stains are the other one. If something hot has been spilled and then walked on, the dye can bond to the fibre permanently. We will tell you when that is what we are looking at.

Yes, and it usually makes sense to. Treating one patch on an otherwise dirty carpet tends to leave a clean spot that draws the eye more than the stain did.

Most people have the room cleaned and the stain treated in the same visit, which is quoted as one job rather than two.

It matters, but it is rarely fatal. Tell us what you used and we will work around it.

The common problem is residue: a lot of retail products leave something sticky behind that re-soils within weeks, so the mark appears to come back. That residue can be extracted. What is harder to undo is a product that has bleached or stripped colour, which is why it is worth asking before reaching for the bottle next time.

Public liability on its own does not cover damage to the thing being cleaned. Our policy adds treatment risk and damage to property worked upon, up to £2 million, which is the cover that actually applies if a carpet or a sofa is damaged during a clean.

It is worth asking any carpet cleaner for that specifically. Plenty carry public liability alone and still describe themselves as fully insured, and the difference only shows up at the point you need it.
